Abstract

Translated Abstract

Leprosy is an infectious disease of chronic evolution, which although curable, remains endemic in Brazil, being considered an important challenge in public health, being associated with social inequality and unfavorable socioeconomic conditions. The study aimed to evaluate the effect of the Infohansen application on teachers' knowledge about leprosy. This is a quasi-experimental analytical study of the before and after type with a quantitative approach, in which an intervention was carried out with the Infohansen application to verify the knowledge of teachers in the pre and post intervention. The study population were high school teachers integrated to technical and subsequent (after high school) at the Technical School of Paulínia - SP. The sample consisted of 30 teachers. Teachers in the exercise of their function were included, able to develop the reading of phrases and/or words in the handling and use of cell phones and capable of understanding the necessary guidelines for the development of this study, teachers on sick leave, maternity leave, vacations, readjusted to other functions during the period of data collection, people with visual impairments or deafness and teachers who do not have cell phones with iOS and Android operating systems. Data were collected from a semi-structured questionnaire adapted with open and closed questions. The study took place in five continuous stages: stage I: planning, stage II: pre-intervention, stage III: intervention, stage IV: post-intervention, stage V: evaluation. Data analysis consisted of comparing scores of teachers' knowledge about leprosy before the intervention and after the intervention of the Infohansen application. Descriptive statistics of absolute frequency and percentage were used in the preand post-intervention of the Infohansen application. There was an increase in the knowledge score with significance about what causes leprosy (p= 0.013) and the form of transmission of leprosy (p=0.026). There was a total and percentage increase in knowledge scores regarding what leprosy is, how the disease is recognized, its ability to cause sequelae, treatment and place of treatment, and fear of contact with people with leprosy. Participants considered that the educational application brought knowledge about leprosy and that it is important to include the theme in school curricula, they report having no difficulties in using technology and recommend the application to other teachers. The Infohansen educational application proved to be effective in building knowledge about leprosy for teachers and can be used as a tool in health education actions in the school environment.
