Uncommon adverse effects of thalidomide: seldom reported phenomena in leprosy

Abstract
The efficacy of thalidomide has been a landmark in the treatment of ENL, especially the severe forms like ENL necroticans. Thalidomide does have its share of adverse effects (AE), but with the low doses used in leprosy, we do not encounter very severe AEs, seen with its use in myeloid malignancies and other illnesses. We describe here a case of ENL treated with thalidomide and subsequent development of some seldom reported severe AE like pancytopenia and severe neuropsychriatric symptoms. Such features of drug toxicity must be taken into consideration while monitoring a patient of ENL on thalidomide.
