Treatment of Hansen’s Disease

Abstract

Hansen’s disease (leprosy) is a curable disease, and the treatment is done with a combination of three drugs, dapsone, rifampicin, and clofazimine, known as multidrug therapy. In the multibacillary forms, the regimen is 12 doses and in the paucibacillary forms, 6 doses. In cases of impossibility of using any of the MDT components, adverse drug reactions and/or drug resistance, minocycline, ofloxacin, and clarithromycin can be used in substitute regimens.
