Preventive and control programme of leprosy In Tamil Nadu after independence

Abstract
Leprosy is a neurological disease. This is curable disease but it threats public health in Tamil Nadu. It was an ancient disease found at East Africa. Leprosy was mentioned in Vedic age as Kushth Rog. They were followed traditional treatment as like Chalmoogra Oil. Dr. Gerhard Armauer Hansen who was discovered Mycobacterium Leprac in 1873. This article described preventive and control programme of leprosy in Tamil Nadu. During colonial time the government of the British also took action against it but there was no medicine to cure and patients were kept in isolation till discovered of drug in 1940. This article explains the government of India which has launched national level leprosy control and eradicate programme. The private institutions also made their great contributions to control and eradicate of leprosy in Tamil Nadu.
