O impacto dos estigmas sociais e das vulnerabilidades em saúde na vida das pessoas com hanseníase

Introdução: A hanseníase é uma doença infectocontagiosa causada pelo bacilo Mycobacterium leprae. É considerada  um problema de saúde pública no Brasil e em outros países, pois apresenta evolução lenta, alta taxa de transmissão e repercussões no âmbito físico, sociocultural, econômico e emocional/psicológico. Objetivo: Identificar o impacto dos estigmas sociais e das vulnerabilidades em saúde na vida dos portadores de hanseníase. Método: Trata-se de uma revisão integrativa da literatura. A busca de dados foi realizada no mês de abril de 2022 por três autores independentes por meio da Medical Literature Analysis and Retrieval System Online (MEDLINE) sob a interface do Pubmed e do Portal Regional da Biblioteca Virtual de Saúde (BVS), utilizando-se os descritores: leprosy OR mycobacterium leprae AND social vulnerability AND social determinants of health. Resultados: Os resultados são apresentados por meio de quadros sinópticos, contendo título, país e ano, principais achados e nível de evidência dos artigos selecionados. No total, foram selecionados onze artigos que respondessem ao problema de pesquisa. Conclusão: A hanseníase está associada a diversos estigmas que circundam a baixa autoestima, o medo e a exclusão social, corroborando para uma grande interferência entre as relações de hansenianos com a sociedade, visto que o isolamento dessa população foi um método utilizado durante muito tempo.

Introduction: Leprosy is an infectious disease caused by the bacillus Mycobacterium leprae. It is considered a public health problem in Brazil and in other countries because of its slow evolution, high transmission rate, and physical, sociocultural, economic, and emotional/psychological repercussions. Objective: To identify the impact of social stigmas and health vulnerabilities on the lives of leprosy patients. Method: This is an integrative literature review. The data search was conducted in April 2022 by three independent authors through the Medical Literature Analysis and Retrieval System Online (MEDLINE) under the Pubmed interface and the Virtual Health Library (VHL) Regional Portal, using the descriptors: leprosy OR mycobacterium leprae AND social vulnerability AND social determinants of health. Results: The results are presented by means of synoptic tables, containing title, country and year, main findings and level of evidence of the selected articles. In total, eleven articles were selected that responded to the research problem. Conclusion: Leprosy is linked to several stigmas that surround low self-esteem, fear and social exclusion, corroborating for a great interference between the relations of leprosy patients with society, since the isolation of this population was a method used for a long time.
