Leprosy control program: analysis of the epidemiological situation and measures adopted for treatment in the public service in the city of Vertentes – PE

Abstract
Leprosy is a disease caused by the bacteria Mycobacterium leprae can become chronic and infectious if there is no early diagnosis. Therefore a disease that needs to be reported to public health authorities from the compulsory notification that is carried out by the municipal health system. This was a qualitative and quantitative retrospective study, which aimed to monitor the medical records of patients with leprosy, registered in the SINAN program (Information System of communication of Grievance) in the city of Vertentes - PE, with a view to collecting data through a form. This research aimed to evaluate the leprosy control program the analysis of the epidemiological situation and the measures adopted for treatment in the public service in the city of Vertentes - PE. Thirty forms were completed to collect data registered in the SINAN program leprosy at the municipal health department of the city of Vertentes. Of this total, 50% (n =15) were female and the other 50% (n =15) were male. Therefore, the results were heterogeneous in the age group, the majority of patients completed the treatment which shows that public health policies are being well applied, mainly in terms of equity, improvement of the population's quality of life and health.
