Leprosy is a chronic infectious disease, whose etiological agent is the Mycobacterium
leprae, and the main form of transmission is through the airway. One of the most
important demonstrations are hypochromic skin lesions with diminishing sensitivity. The
goal of this job is to expose the consequences that this disease generates, like physical
incapacity even after specific treatment. This is a descriptive and transversal
epidemiological study based on data from articles and documents the Health Surveillance
Secretariat, published in the last 10 years in Brazil, with analysis of confirmed leprosy
cases. The analyzed studies showed a prevalence of leprosy cases in males and in the
black population. They also reveal that of all new cases with leprosy, on average 20% of
the patients remains physical incapacity, even after the discharge. The results show how
