[Evaluation of leprosy control program from Imperatriz-MA: An exploratory study]

Abstract
To assess the leprosy control services in the city of Imperatriz-MA. Methods: We analyzed 14 primary care units and interviewed 70 users of primary care in the municipality. Results: All services offer multidrug therapy (MDT) for multibacillary (MB) and paucibacillary (PB). Between 2001-2010 there was a predominance of PB leprosy cases (62.6%) in the cases of MB (37.4%). There was a 26.2% reduction in the zero degree of injury between the time of diagnosis and clinical discharge. There was an increase of 18.6% of cases not evaluated, it is a total of 1,735 people for some reason did not receive a clinical evaluation to verify the presence, improvement or worsening of disabilities related to leprosy. Conclusion: Health services targeted to people with leprosy have to undergo adjustments in their structure, process and results in order to achieve the goals set by the competent bodies.
