Epidemiological Clinical profile of Leprosy in the State of Tocantins in the period from 2015 to 2018

Abstract
The leprosy is defined as an infectious disease of chronic evolution, which etiologic agent is the bacillus Mycobacterium leprae, that mainly affects skin and peripheral nerves, but can affect practically all organs and systems in which there are macrophages. Brazil is among the countries with the highest rates of the disease, especially in the North region. In 1991 this pathology was considered a public health problem and then, it was defined the goal of less than 1 case per 10 thousand inhabitants during the 49th World Health Assembly (WHA), a commitment made by the 122 most endemic countries, and fulfilled by 119 countries. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the epidemiological profile of patients affected by leprosy in the state of Tocantins, in the period from 2015 to 2018, analyzing data on gender, age group, clinical and operational form of the disease, disability rate and cure rate related to the degree of incapacity, in addition to assessing the monitoring indicators for the elimination of the disease as the pre-established goal in WHA. These data will be obtained from the National Notification and Injury System (SINAN), through the DATASUS database. From this study, it was observed a higher prevalence in the male sex, in patients between the age group of 35-49 years, a high index of the dimorphic clinical form and the multibacillary operational form, and in the zero degree of disability. Therefore, in this study, it is possible to define the clinical-epidemiological profile in the state of Tocantins, in the period between 2015 and 2018.
