De novo histoid leprosy in northern Nigeria
Abstract
Leprosy has existed since antiquity and is associated with stigma and physical disabilities. Despite longstanding efforts at eradication, it is still prevalent in certain regions of the world. Histoid leprosy (HL) is a rare form of the disease that is prone to misdiagnosis. We report a case of de novo HL in a 35-year-old male who presented with generalised subcutaneous skin nodules and papules. Histopathological analysis revealed numerous acid-fast bacilli.
