Co-occurrence of lichen planus pigmentosus and leprosy: a case with many lessons
Abstract
Lichen planus pigmentosus (LPP) is a chronic pigmentary disorder that may obscure coexisting dermatoses. We report a rare co-occurrence of generalised LPP with borderline tuberculoid leprosy. The co-occurrence of these two conditions has not yet been reported in literature. This report also discusses the impact of clofazimine-induced pigmentation and its associated stigma and psychological distress in the patient. This case highlights the risk of leprosy lesions remaining unnoticed in patients with pigmentary disorders and underscores the need for meticulous examination, anticipatory counselling, and integrated psychosocial support in holistic leprosy management.
