Strengthening Participation of People affected by Leprosy through Groups
The participation of persons affected by leprosy in leprosy services is becoming part of increasingly more leprosy programs. This positive development should be encouraged and supported by providing knowledge and know-how.
The formation of groups is often regarded as the most effective way to enable participation. As a group, people are able to participate in a broad range of activities and collaborate with other organisations and service providers. By supporting people affected by leprosy to establish and run strong and active groups, their participation in leprosy services can be increased and strengthened.
Groups may be, for example, self-care or self-help groups, local, regional, or national networks, or disabled people’s organisations.
This database collects knowledge about group formation, their strengthening and sustainability. It will include research, guidelines, case studies, or any other form of information about this topic.
