Introduction: A descriptive study was carried out with the purpose of determining the incidence of leprosy in the Santa Cruz del Sur municipality in a period of thirty years. The study universe consisted of all the patients notified of leprosy at this stage.

Methods: As a source of information, the clinical records of the municipal Dermatology consultation and the annual reports of the Municipal Department of Statistics were used, from which the data referring to incidence, age, sex, skin color, area of residence, clinical forms, presence of disability, reactional episodes and psychosocial impact on the evolution of the disease. The data were processed using descriptive statistics, frequency distribution and rates.

Results: 76 patients with a predominance of males, older than 45 years, white skin and an urban area of residence were notified. The predominant clinical form was dimorphic leprosy. A small number of patients were diagnosed with disability and within the reactional episodes, erythema nodosum leprosum predominated. Occupational and psychological stress significantly influenced the torpid evolution of the disease.

Conclusions: The incidence rate remained stable.
