Methodology: this is study descriptive, exploratory and cross-sectional study from quantitative approach in the area enrolled in a Family Health Unit in Petrolina-PE city. The sample consisted of 11 patients with leprosy and 23 household contacts. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews. The study was approved by the Ethics Committee of the Instituto Materno Infantil Professor Fernando Figueira protocol n. 1701. Results: patients were mostly female with a diagnosis of paucibacillary. As for communicating data, it was realized that the age ranged between 18 and 74, with school level heterogeneity. It was noted that contacts had lived for a long period of patients with clinical forms of higher transmission power. Conclusions: it is essential to control the contacts of leprosy patients through effective performance of the team of family health.
