These can be grouped, based on the microorganism, into bacterial, fungal, and viral. Among them are leprosy and sporotrichosis. Leprosy is a destructive bacterial disease, and sporotrichosis is caused by dimorphic fungi with saprobiotic life in nature. As that affects the hands, fingers, and nail unit, leprosy can affect more frequently nail unit than sporotrichosis. A high index of suspicion is required for the early diagnosis of tropical diseases. They may occur in the nail unit on primary form or more rarely in the disseminated form. Each type of bacterial or fungal infection has a “classic” presentation. We will discuss these diseases and their presentations, form of diagnosis, and management. a2523-8884, 2523-8892 a9783030599966
