Morbus Hansen (MH) remains a big health problem. Clinical features of MH varies widely, makes difficult in
diagnosing MH. The accurate diagnosis of MH is necessary in breaking the chain of transmission and delay treatment.
Leprosy rapid test (LRT) is a simple rapid diagnostic tool to diagnose MH accurately. This aim of this study to
determine the diagnostic values of LRT in diagnosing MH compare to slit skin smear (SSS) in presumtive MH patients at
Dr. Mohammad Hoesin General Hospital (RSUPMH) Palembang. Diagnostic test with cross sectional design was
conducted from November 2014 to February 2015. A hundred and ten presumtive MH patients who fulfilled inclusion
criterias in the Dermatology Infection Outpatient Clinic at RSUPMH Palembang were included by consecutive
sampling. All participants were examined with LRT, SSS and histopathological. The sensitivity, specificity, accuracy
and area under curve of LRT are significantly higher than SSS (98,1% vs 85,71%; 80% vs 60%; 97% vs 85% and
0,890 vs 0,72; respectively). Leprosy rapid test provides significantly higher diagnostic values than SSS in RSUPMH
Palembang. It can be used instead of SSS as MH diagnostic tool.
