Leprosy affects the skin and nerves. It results in anesthetic skin patches and multiple mononeuropathies with thickened nerves. The nerve involvement is initially sensory and hence, can lead to nonhealing ulcers and deformities. Uncommonly, neuropathy can be pansensory, sensorimotor, and symmetrical. There are reports of leprous ganglionitis, and further proximal spread is also exceptionally known. Pure neuritic leprosy needs to be identified. Lepra reactions result in sensory phenomena and skin and joint lesions. Early diagnosis and therapy help prevent deformities.
