  abstract = {<p>The first case of progressive systemic sclerosis in a Nigerian is described. In addition to the typical features of the disease, the case shows affection of the peripheral nerves, a very rare complication. The latter led to a mistaken diagnosis of leprosy. The reasons for the rarity of this disorder in the indigenous Africans and its differentiating features from leprosy are discussed.</p>},
