  abstract = {<p>Iritis in leprosy is still a significant cause of blindness and visual impairment in this disabling disease. Evidence is accumulating from clinical observations and from pathological and pharmacological studies that the chronic iritis of lepromatous leprosy may have a neuroparalytic origin. A hypothesis derived from this evidence is presented in order to stimulate further research into the pathogenesis of this condition with a view to developing new methods of management and prevention.</p>},
